What to Pack for Festival Travel – the Kit That’s Always with Me.
I attend a lot of shows. Enough to know the event or festival itself is only half the trip.
The other half is everything around it — the flight or the long drive, the hotel that's never quite quiet, the morning after three days on your feet. Nobody packs for that part. And it's the part that decides whether you come home wrecked or come home already eyeing the next one. After enough trial and error, I've figured out what to pack for festival travel so only what earns its spot makes the bag.
This isn't my festival gear — the stuff I take into the show lives on its own page. This is the trip kit. The learned-the-hard-way stuff that travels with me every single time.
Sleep is the thing you can't fake.
You can power through a lot, but not three nights of bad sleep in a strange room with thin walls and an afterparty down the hall. The fixes that changed this for me: real earplugs — not the foam ones, the kind built for loud rooms that you can still sleep in — and a contoured mask that blocks light without pressing on your eyes. Add a neck pillow for the tired neck and something to help you wind down after a late set, and you stop arriving already exhausted.
Your body is doing an endurance event it never trained for.
Standing for hours, walking miles, dancing all night — festivals are athletic, we just don't admit it until day two. The recovery kit earns its space: a mini massage gun for the legs that are going to hate you, electrolytes because water alone doesn't cut it after a hot day in a crowd, something topical for the soreness, and compression socks for the travel and all the standing. This is the difference between rallying for the next night and tapping out early.
If you're flying to a destination festival specifically, I've gone deeper on some specific products over in my destination festival packing guide — but for most trips, this is the short list.
Then the boring stuff that saves the whole weekend.
None of its exciting and all of it has rescued a trip at least once. Blister care — non-negotiable, the miles add up fast and a bad heel can sideline you. A compact first-aid kit. Something for bug bites that actually works. A little immune backup for three days of crowds and strangers' germs. And an essential-oil roll-on for the small stuff. You only notice this kit when you don't have it.

And pack smart, because overpacking is its own punishment.
A luggage scale so you're not paying overweight fees at the gate. Compression packing cubes to fit more in less. A hanging toiletry bag for counters that don't exist in tiny hotel bathrooms. A laundry bag to keep three days of festival-sweat off everything clean.
That's the kit — years of mostly-error distilled down to what makes the cut. Get these handled and the trip takes care of itself, which means you spend your energy where it belongs. At the show.
