Major Music Festivals July–September 2026 (U.S. Guide)

Summer is the deep end of festival season — the stretch where the calendar goes from busy to genuinely overwhelming, and where a little planning is the difference between a weekend you survive and one you actually remember. From a NorCal jam-and-funk gathering in the pines to a beach festival with sand still in your shoes, Q3 is when the live-music year hits full volume.

Below is our curated, chronological guide to the major music festivals happening July through September 2026 — so you can map your dates, book travel early, and stop scrambling the week of.

All dates, lineups, and details below are accurate as of publishing and are subject to change. Always check the official festival website before booking travel or making final plans.

July 2026

High Sierra Music Festival

July 2–5, 2026 | Nevada County Fairgrounds, Grass Valley, CA After 25 years in Quincy, High Sierra moves to a new, far more reachable home in Grass Valley — two hours from San Francisco — without losing an ounce of what makes it special: four stages, late-night sets, artist playshops, and that loose, communal pines-and-funk energy. If you only do one NorCal weekend this summer, this is the one. Confirmed artists (selection): Steel Pulse, The Word (John Medeski, Robert Randolph, North Mississippi Allstars), Don Was & The Pan-Detroit Ensemble, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Dumpstaphunk, Cymande, Eggy, Trombone Shorty Foundation Band.

Mosswood Meltdown

July 17–19, 2026 | Mosswood Park, Oakland, CA A scrappy, beloved Bay Area weekend with a punk-and-garage heart — small footprint, huge personality. Confirmed artists (selection): Iggy Pop, Bikini Kill, Pavement.

Minnesota Yacht Club Festival

July 17–19, 2026 | St. Paul, MN A riverfront city festival that’s quickly become one of the Midwest’s strongest summer draws. Confirmed artists (selection): The Strokes, The Lumineers, The Black Keys, Matchbox Twenty, Lord Huron, Passion Pit.

Levitate Music and Arts Festival

July 18–19, 2026 | Marshfield Fairgrounds, Marshfield, MA This one’s a personal favorite, and it wears its roots on its sleeve — started by a community surf-and-skate shop, grown into New England’s best grassroots weekend of reggae, roots, folk, and funk, about 30 minutes south of Boston. Family-friendly, art-forward, and stacked with the kind of bands that live on my playlists year-round. Confirmed artists (selection): Alanis Morissette, CAAMP, Ziggy Marley, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, The Elovaters, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Pepper, The Movement, Larkin Poe, Sammy Rae & The Friends, Royel Otis.

Newport Folk Festival

July 24–26, 2026 | Fort Adams State Park, Newport, RI Not the biggest, but maybe the most meaningful — Newport Folk still runs on songwriting, surprise collaborations, and history. Already sold out, with an official waitlist and fan-to-fan exchange, which tells you everything about what it still means. Confirmed artists (selection): Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Lucy Dacus, Courtney Barnett, Hot Tuna.

Lollapalooza

July 30 – August 2, 2026 | Grant Park, Chicago, IL Four days, eight stages, and a downtown skyline backdrop — still one of the biggest city festivals in the country. Confirmed artists (selection): Charli XCX, Tate McRae, Lorde, The Smashing Pumpkins, The xx, Turnstile, Olivia Dean, John Summit.

EverWild Music Festival

July 30 – August 1, 2026 | Legend Valley, Thornville, OH A reggae-rock and jam haven on hallowed ground — Legend Valley has been a Midwest music mecca for forty-plus years, with everyone from the Grateful Dead to Metallica having played the 230-acre site. Three days of camping, no overlapping sets, and a bill that leans straight into the sound this site was built for. Confirmed artists (selection): Dirty Heads, 311, Tropidelic, The Movement, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Little Stranger, Rome, Mike Love, KBong, Johnny Cosmic, ekoostik hookah.

August 2026

Outside Lands

August 7–9, 2026 | Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA The West Coast’s flagship city festival: top-tier music, elevated food and wine, and that signature Golden Gate Park fog. A lineup that refuses to stay in one lane. Confirmed artists (selection): Charli XCX, The Strokes, The xx, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Baby Keem, Death Cab for Cutie, Empire of the Sun, Labrinth.

Reggae on the River

August 14–16, 2026 | County Line Ranch, Piercy, CA A NorCal institution since 1984 — three days of roots reggae deep in the Northern California forest, riverfront and camping under the redwoods. This is reggae the way it’s meant to be heard: outdoors, unhurried, and rooted in the real thing. Confirmed artists (selection): Burning Spear, The Movement, Don Carlos, Kabaka Pyramid, Big Mountain, Dezarie, Iba Mahr, Prezident Brown, Simrit.

Breakaway Music Festival (Michigan + Massachusetts)

Michigan: August 14–15, 2026 | Belknap Park, Grand Rapids, MI Massachusetts: August 21–22, 2026 | The Palladium (Indoors & Outdoors), Worcester, MA For the glow-night and bass crowd, Breakaway is one of the fastest-growing touring festival brands in the country — and it hits twice in August on opposite ends of the map. Each stop books its own headliners, so it’s two distinct weekends of drops and late-night energy rather than the same show twice. Michigan headliners (selection): FISHER, Subtronics, Two Friends (Bass Set), Gigantic NGHTMRE, it’s murph, Dr. Fresch, KREAM, Wuki. Massachusetts headliners (selection): Zedd, Excision, Gryffin, Crankdat, it’s murph, Sullivan King, Wax Motif, INZO.

Just Like Heaven

August 22, 2026 | Brookside at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA The indie-sleaze time capsule moves from its usual May slot to late August this year. One day, one nostalgic SoCal afternoon, a stacked 2000s-and-2010s bill. Confirmed artists (selection): The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Chromeo, Feist, The Rapture, Twin Peaks, Dayglow.

September 2026

Bumbershoot

September 5–6, 2026 | Seattle Center, Seattle, WA A Labor Day institution under the Space Needle — one of the most eclectic, locally-rooted lineups of the season. Confirmed artists (selection): Death Cab for Cutie, Turnstile, Japanese Breakfast, Orville Peck, Blood Orange, De La Soul, Bikini Kill.

Louder Than Life

September 17–20, 2026 | Louisville, KY If your September leans heavy, this is the four-day rock-and-metal anchor of the back half of the year. Confirmed artists (selection): My Chemical Romance, Iron Maiden, Tool, Limp Bizkit, Pantera, Megadeth, Alice Cooper.

Riot Fest

September 18–20, 2026 | Douglass Park, Chicago, IL The punk, emo, and alternative cornerstone of the fall calendar. (Full lineup at the official site.)

Shaky Knees

September 18–20, 2026 | Piedmont Park, Atlanta, GA Atlanta’s rock-and-alternative weekend knows exactly what it is — guitar-forward and proud of it. Confirmed artists (selection): The Strokes, Gorillaz, Twenty One Pilots, Turnstile, Pavement, LCD Soundsystem, Modest Mouse.

Borderland Music & Arts Festival

September 18–20, 2026 | Knox Farm State Park, East Aurora, NY Big-name lineup, small-town feel — major artists in a Western New York setting with local food, art, and community baked in. Confirmed artists (selection): Jack White, Alabama Shakes, Lord Huron, Pixies, The Head and the Heart, Leftover Salmon, St. Paul & The Broken Bones.

Sea.Hear.Now

September 19–20, 2026 | Asbury Park, NJ Music and surf, right on the sand — the rare festival where the beach is the venue, not the afterthought. A perfect Q3 closer if you like your live music with an ocean breeze. Confirmed artists (selection): The Strokes, Goo Goo Dolls, Fontaines D.C.

Nocturnal Wonderland

September 19–20, 2026 | Glen Helen Regional Park, San Bernardino, CA The longest-running dance music festival in the country, and a SoCal staple since 1995 — Insomniac’s whimsical, after-dark wonderland set against the San Bernardino mountains, with on-site camping and easy reach from LA. The September home base for the glow-night crowd out West. Confirmed artists (selection): deadmau5, Illenium, T-Pain (DJ set), Seven Lions, Deorro, James Hype, Green Velvet, SVDDEN DEATH, NGHTMRE, TroyBoi, Malaa.

Ohana Festival

September 25–27, 2026 | Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, CA One of the best weekends of the SoCal year — and about as PBC as a festival gets. Curated by Eddie Vedder right on the sand at Doheny, Ohana is music, surf culture, and coastal conservation rolled into one Southern California weekend. Toes in the sand, ocean at your back, and a lineup that spans rock, folk, and Americana. If you only make one of these your home-turf tradition, make it this. Confirmed artists (selection): Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam, Tyler Childers, Alabama Shakes, Billy Idol, Bad Religion, Courtney Barnett, Fontaines D.C., Alice Phoebe Lou.

Holo Holo Sacramento

September 26–27, 2026 | Heart Health Park, Sacramento, CA Island sound and reggae vibes for the close of summer — Holo Holo brings the laid-back Hawaiian-and-reggae spirit to Northern California for a two-day, all-ages weekend. The kind of mellow, sunny send-off that pairs perfectly with the end of festival season. Confirmed artists (selection): Shaggy, The Green, Hirie, Natural Vibrations, Ekolu, Eli-mac, K’nova.

CRSSD Festival (Fall)

September 26–27, 2026 | Waterfront Park, San Diego, CA And we’ll close right where I call home. CRSSD is San Diego’s own — a curated house-and-techno weekend right on the downtown bay at Waterfront Park, run by the FNGRS CRSSD crew twice a year. Skyline on one side, harbor on the other, and some of the best underground and headline dance talent anywhere. If you’re in town for it, there’s no better way to end the season. Confirmed artists (selection): Chris Lake, Disclosure, Mochakk, Ben UFO, Big Wild, Carlita.

Plan Your Festival Season

The summer calendar fills fast, and the gap between a good festival weekend and one you fully enjoy almost always comes down to being ready before you go. Once your dates are locked, get your setup handled in one place — sun protection, hydration, long-day comfort, and the gear that carries you from the first set to the last encore.

👉 Festival & Concert Essentials — everything you need for long days, late nights, and travel-ready weekends, in one spot.

Give yourself at least 10 days before your festival to get everything in place. Shipping and last-minute scrambling take the fun out of it fast — handle it early, then go enjoy the music the way it’s meant to be enjoyed.

And before you pack, run through the destination festival packing list
